First Pair of Socks Completed!

Woohoo! My first pair of knit socks are complete! I used a "Spiral Sock" pattern with Patons Kroy sock wool. These socks are super warm and I just love them! I'm not sure if this is kinda weird, but I don't know if I could wear them just as regular socks inside my shoes! I feel almost as though they're a little too nice to wear inside shoes or something. I'm not sure if anyone else has felt this way after knitting socks?

Truth be told, I've been purchasing my socks for the past while at the local Dollarama store. They're cheap and alright as far as socks go, but they're definitely nothing like a warm pair of hand-knit ones!

After making these, I went back out to the store and bought some more sock yarn. Perhaps I'm already addicted! Maybe I should get used to wearing handmade socks and use my old ones solely for the purpose of going to the gym with my sweaty old running shoes. Thoughts?

New Needlepoint Pixels!

I just finished some brand new needlepoint creations! The first one is a Pac-Man screenshot from when you first begin the game - the center of the main board with the four ghosts and Pacman, ready to start chomping on some pellets!

The second is Mario from the Super Mario Bros. 3 video game for the NES - does anyone else have fond memories of the Kuribo's Shoe level like I do? Only in this level did you get to jump around in this green shoe, stomping on top of all enemies, spikey things, or anything else! I remember playing this with my sister when I was a kid and fighting to play this level, and trying to set it up so I was the one who got to play it :)

The third needlepoint is Megaman, from the popular games for the Nintendo. Isn't he cute?

In other news...I'm very close to being finished my first pair of socks that I blogged about last week! I'll be posting them once I'm done! They are quite cozy...or at least from what I can tell from the first sock being completed!

Visiting the Cute Kitties!

Meet my kitties! Well, two of them are "mine" - the black one (Kiki) and the gray tabby (Tony) are my cats from when I lived at home with the family. They are living with my sister now at her apartment, and I was able to visit them all weekend long! She also has a third addition - a fluffy calico kitty named Fishie. All of the cats love each other, play around together, cuddle and bathe each other - it is so very cute. In this first picture, Kiki climbed right into my lap to have a little snuggle - he loves to just climb on you and sit in your lap for a little cat-nap. :)

All three of the cats were strays and adopted from the wonderful organization - the Animal Welfare Association of Hamilton, Ontario. They are a not for profit organization that is completely run by unpaid volunteers. There are many foster families that take care of the cats until they find permanent homes, and Animal Welfare never puts any of the cats to sleep - they will wait as long as it takes for the cats to find homes. It is such a wonderful charity that truly cares about the animals that they rescue. If you're looking to adopt a cat and you are from the area, I highly suggest that you check them out!

Here are some more pictures of our little cuties for you to enjoy!

Tony and Kiki looking outside the screen door, watching the rain fall. I set up their multi-level scratching post in front of the door so they could look outside and enjoy the fresh air - they both shared the top level of it together.

Tony rolling around on the carpet all silly-like. He just randomly started rolling around and playing with nothing! What a silly-head. I didn't even give him any catnip!

Tony and Kiki loving each other - Kiki is licking Tony's paws! Tony is enjoying it! Usually after they clean each other, one cat "play-bites" the other, and then they start to wrestle around.

These last couple of pictures are of Fishie, the newest addition! She loves her little mouse toy and carries it around with her - this time, she brought it into the bathtub with her!

As you can see...I love my cats! It's a shame that in my current living situation, we can't have any cats, but once my fiance and I end up moving into our own house, we'll hopefully be able to have a couple of our own :)

New Nintendo DS Knit Case!

I just finished another Nintendo DS Case! It is a fully knit case with a a fabric liner on the inside, completely sewed by hand! There is a zipper closure that will keep your DS snug and safe. I should add that these are made to fit the Nintendo DS Lite model (if you have the original DS model, I can custom make one to fit that if you're interested!) These zip pouches are also great to hold pretty much anything - your camera, iPod, money or change, make-up, whatever really!

There's also a super cute button made from Japanese paper on the front - a pink kawaii tofu block :)

Casting On - My First Pair of Socks!

I'm excited - I am finally starting to knit my very first pair of socks! I've been meaning to give this a try for a long time since I am a knitter and I keep seeing these wonderful socks that people are knitting - what deterred me at first was the high price of sock wool. I'm sure that once I get going with these that I'll be hooked!

I was at the Lens Mills store today picking up some embroidery floss when I took a look at the wool (can't resist looking!) and noticed that the sock wool was actually on sale! I decided to go with the Patons Kroy Socks in a colorful striped pattern.

I just started them this afternoon so we'll see how long it takes me to knit a sock!

Thursday Evening Photos

We've been having some crazy weather this summer. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada, and I don't know about you, but it has been one rainy summer. We've been getting thunderstorms almost every day. On most days, we will have bright sunshine one moment, and thunderstorms the next. Something just isn't right, that's for sure. The above photo was taken out of our bedroom window in the evening - a lovely sunset. You can see in the photo above (and the photo below) the ominous clouds looming above the pink sunset with a patch of rain coming down in the distance.

About a half hour later, the storm that was once in the distance was now overhead and it was a wild one! The winds were quite intense, with booming thunder and lightning that lit up the sky. I tried to take a picture out the window, but it was pretty dark by this point and the raindrops had blurred my view. This is the best image that I photographed - it didn't capture the weather very well, but you can see just how dreary it became outside - a stark contrast to the beautiful sunset from just moments earlier.

Coffee Love

Today, I thought that I would post about my love for coffee. This is a picture of one of my favorite coffee mugs (I have a matching blue one as well) that has my favorite cutie pie of a bear on it, Relax Bear. Back to coffee - I drink coffee on a daily basis - this all began back in university when it became a staple during certain lengthy lectures. I am not really the type of person who drinks coffee first thing in the morning when she first wakes up. In fact, I most enjoy drinking coffee in the afternoon or after dinner (it is my dessert! Really!) I generally tend to keep a warm cup of coffee beside me while I'm crafting or knitting, and make regular stops at the Tim Hortons while at work.

Right now, I am drinking this:

It is "Praline & Creme" whole coffee beans that I picked up last summer while visiting Tobermory, Ontario. We were hoping to go across the lake to Flowerpot Island (AMAZING...go if you ever get the chance, if you live in Ontario and think you have seen everything...it is beautiful there!) but there were high winds so the boats weren't making the trip out. Instead, my fiance and I decided to just spend the day there since we drove all that way, went for a walk, had some lunch, and did a little shopping. I treated myself to this coffee and it is delicious! I put it in the cupboard and forgot about it for a little while (which is why it is still around a year later!) but I have rediscovered it this evening. What a treat!

Today has been a great day so far - my fiance went to work today, and I have the day off, so I have spent a relaxing day at home. I went for a walk around the neighborhood for an hour or so, had a soothing bath using a great smelling Lush bath bomb that my sister got me for my birthday, read some of the new Martha Stewart Living magazine that I got in the mail, and worked on some new Nintendo DS Pouches for the Etsy shop.

By the way, did anyone catch last night's episode of Big Brother? Libra has got to go! Ugh!

New Cardholders for your Office or Desk!

Here are some brand new Perler Bead creations, available for sale at Lost Mitten! They are both business card holders for your office, desk, or anywhere you store your cards! It is also great for holding random scraps of paper that might be lying around - I know that I tend to leave papers around all over my desk, so a central place to put them is wonderful!

Stylish and functional art for your desk, these cardholders will hold plenty of your business cards! One is made to look like television color bars - a familiar design for anyone who watches TV! Great for all television addicts out there! The other one is made to look like a piano keyboard, great for musicians and music-lovers!

You can find both of them at my Etsy shop: TV Color Bar Cardholder, Piano Keyboard Cardholder
